Situated in the northeastern of the kingdom, the ancient region of Lhuentse (also known as Kurtoe, Lhuntse) is home to the ancestral home of Bhutan’s kings.

It takes around 3 hours drive from Mongar to Lhuentse (77km). This is also one of the most isolated districts in this country.

Lhuentse is famous for its distinctive textiles and weavers, especially in Khoma village. You can find it easy to see the weaving handicraft looms at almost every household.

This region plays an important role in protecting the environment since it contains three main national parks which are Wangchuck Centennial Park, Thrumshingla National Park and Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary.
