Mongar, Bhutan

Pass over sheer cliffs and through beautiful fir forests and green pastures to see Mongar Dzong

Mongar Dzong is one of the crucial structures in the eponymous district of Bhutan. Built in the early 20 century (1930), Mongar Dzong was actually a replacement of the former Zhongar Dzong. Unlike other earlier dzongs that are located in strategic positions, Mongar Dzong situates on a small gently sloping area just above the Mongar Central Town. However, its construction still keeps the same architectural design and engineering skills of traditional ancient Dzongs. Mongar Dzong now also serves as the administrative centre and the residence of Mongar District's monastic body. To visit Mongar Dzong, travelers will pass over sheer cliffs and through beautiful fir forests & green pastures. An excursion to the dzong shocases how traditional Bhutanese architecture has continued to thrive through the centuries.
