Located on 144 Bui Huu Nghia Street, Binh Thuy Ancient House is one of Can Tho city’s most popular attractions where visitors can learn more about the region’s history. The house was built in 1870 by Duong Chan Ky, a wealthy merchant, on an area of nearly 6,000 sqm, and now is managed by the sixth-generation descendant, Duong Minh Hien. One of the rare French style buildings remaining in the Mekong Delta, the house is notable with a combination of traditional East Asian crafts and West European style. Inside the house, tourists will find an age-old collection of furniture, such as an 18th-century chandelier and 19th-century hanging lights. Another great feature of the house, which has caught the attention of many local and foreign tourists, is that it is a popular location for filmmakers. The well-known French movie L’amant, directed by J. J Annaud, is an example.
