White Lotus Thailand Filming Locations That You Can Actually Visit In Asia

Thailand

If Season 3 of The White Lotus sent you straight to a map of Thailand, you're not alone. HBO's Emmy-winning satire filmed across four real Thailand destinations between February and August 2024, and unlike the fictional resort at its center, nearly every White Lotus Thailand filming location is a place you can genuinely book, visit, or simply walk into. This guide maps exactly where each scene was shot - the real hotels, the free public spots, and which doors are actually open to non-guests - so you can plan a trip around it rather than just a rewatch.

Where Was The White Lotus Season 3 Filmed in Thailand?

Production for Season 3 ran from February to August 2024, spanning four distinct Thai destinations rather than a single resort, a first for the anthology series. The show's fictional "White Lotus" resort was actually built from footage stitched together across three different luxury hotels on two islands, plus a full mid-season arc shot in Bangkok.

  • Koh Samui: the Gulf of Thailand island where the bulk of the resort scenes were filmed, primarily at Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Anantara Bophut, and Anantara Lawana
  • Phuket: Thailand's largest island, on the Andaman coast, home to Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, Rosewood Phuket, and several public beaches and nightlife scenes
  • Bangkok: the mid-season episodes shift to the capital, filmed at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and several riverside temples
  • Koh Phangan: a smaller Gulf island best known for Haad Rin Beach, which appears briefly in the show

Creator Mike White has said he chose Thailand partly for its associations with spirituality, wellness, and mortality (themes that run through the season's plot). The production also worked with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and HBO on a promotional partnership tied to the show's release, which is part of why so many of the featured hotels have since built entire "White Lotus experience" packages around their screen time.

The Real Hotels Behind The White Lotus Thailand

Four Seasons Koh Samui White Lotus: The Main Set

The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, a hillside villa property on the island's Gulf of Thailand coast, was the most extensively used location in the season. Its stilted villas, jungle spa, and open-air pool became the guest rooms, breakfast restaurant, and pool scenes that anchor most of the season's imagery, including the Ratliff family's villa and the room shared by Rick and Chelsea.

Anantara Mai Khao Phuket White Lotus: The Real Reception

Here's the detail most guides get wrong: the White Lotus resort's on-screen reception and Episode 1's opening pond scene weren't filmed at the Four Seasons at all. According to location scout Bernad, the Four Seasons Koh Samui's actual reception area wasn't well-suited to filming, so the production instead used the reception and spa at Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, a beachfront resort on Phuket's northwest coast, a different island entirely from where most of the season was shot. This same property's Wellness Sanctuary Spa also became the setting for spa manager Belinda's storyline throughout the season.

Anantara Bophut Koh Samui: Lobby, Security, and the Jewelry Shop Heist

Don't confuse this with the reception scene above; it's a separate Anantara property. Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, on Koh Samui's Bophut Beach, supplied the hotel's lobby, its security checkpoint (where guard Gaitok spends much of the season), the tree-lined driveway, and the jewelry shop robbed in Episode 2.

Rosewood Phuket Ta Khai Restaurant: The Dinner Scenes

Breakfast scenes were shot at the Four Seasons, but dinner moved across the country to Phuket: the season's dinner sequences were filmed at Rosewood Phuket's Ta Khai Restaurant, a seafood restaurant the production chose specifically because the evening light there worked better.

Anantara Lawana Koh Samui: The Singing Bird Lounge

The hotel bar where Chelsea meets a new friend in Episode 1 is the Singing Bird Lounge at Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort, an open-air lounge space known for its thatched-roof cabanas.

How to Visit The About Hotels Without Booking a Room

To visit The White Lotus filming locations without booking a room at the resorts, keep these options and tips in mind.

Access Policy

While the Four Seasons Koh Samui is closed to non-guests, you can visit the Anantara properties and Rosewood Phuket by booking restaurant or spa services.

Specific Dining & Spa Experiences

  • Book a dinner at Ta Khai (Rosewood Phuket) to experience the restaurant used for the show's dinner sequences.
  • Schedule a spa afternoon at Anantara Mai Khao Phuket to visit the resort's reception and spa area.
  • Enjoy a sunset drink at the Singing Bird Lounge at Anantara Lawana.

Planning Tip

Make your restaurant or spa reservations at least a few days in advance, especially during the high season (November–April), as these venues are popular with fans of the show.

White Lotus Bangkok: The Mid-Season Filming Locations

Bangkok isn't a footnote in Season 3; it's a full mid-season arc, and Mandarin Oriental Bangkok was the only hotel in the capital chosen for filming.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok: Lobby and Bamboo Bar scenes

The five-star riverside hotel's lobby and its legendary Bamboo Bar were used for the "Rick and Frank's catch-up" scenes. Mandarin Oriental has since leaned into the exposure with its own White Lotus–themed press materials. Both spaces are open to the public with a dining or drinks reservation; you don't need to be a hotel guest to sit at the same bar.

Sing Sing Theater: The nightclub scene

The high-energy nightclub sequence was filmed at Sing Sing Theater, a well-known nightlife venue in Bangkok's Thonglor neighborhood. It operates as a regular club and is open to the public most nights.

Royal Osha restaurant and Siri Sala Private Villas

Royal Osha, an upscale Thai restaurant, and Siri Sala Private Villas both appear in Sritala's storyline scenes. Royal Osha takes reservations like any restaurant; Siri Sala is a private villa property that can be booked for stays or events.

Wat Pho Pier and Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen

Two riverside and temple locations, Wat Pho Pier on the Chao Phraya River, and the striking multi-tiered Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen temple in Thonburi, appear in Bangkok B-roll and transition shots. Both are free, public sites, and among Bangkok's most photographed temples, regardless of the show.

Wat Suwannaram: Inspiration for the opening credits

This one is a common source of confusion, so here's the correction: the season's opening title sequence wasn't filmed inside a temple; it's a digitally animated mural created by design studio Plains of Yonder. But the mural's style draws directly from real Rattanakosin-era temple paintings, and art sleuths have specifically traced the imagery to Wat Suwannaram Ratchaworawihan, a historic temple on the Bangkok Noi canal in Thonburi, where eagle-eyed fans even spotted cast and crew names hidden in the actual wall paintings.

It's free to visit and a worthwhile detour if you're interested in the show's visual design, even though no cameras rolled there for the live-action footage.

Free & Public Filming Spots You Can Visit Without Booking a Resort

Not every location in Season 3 requires a hotel reservation. Several of the season's most cinematic moments were filmed at spots that are free or low-cost to visit on their own.

  • Ya Nui Beach, Phuket: A small, little-visited beach on Phuket's southern tip, used alongside Koh Samui's marine park in the season's opening arrival-by-boat sequence.
  • Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park: The turquoise island cluster off Koh Samui that supplies the sweeping ocean vistas as the new arrivals approach the resort by boat.
  • Phang Nga Bay and Phuket Yacht Haven Marina: The Episode 4 yacht sequence was filmed in Phang Nga Bay, with boats departing from Phuket Yacht Haven Marina; day-boat charters into the same waters are widely available from Phuket.
  • Fisherman's Village, Bophut, and Choeng Mon Beach: A historic waterfront quarter of Koh Samui with restored shophouses, used for several exterior scenes.
  • Wat Pu Khao Thong and Dusit Dheva Cultural Park: Wat Pu Khao Thong's interiors stood in for the season's Buddhist monastery scenes, while nearby Dusit Dheva Cultural Park supplied the monastery garden setting.
  • Haad Rin Beach, Koh Phangan: Best known for its Full Moon Party, this beach on Koh Samui's neighboring island appears in several establishing shots.
  • Bangla Boxing Stadium, Phuket: The Muay Thai stadium where Gaitok goes on a date with Mook in Episode 7; visitors can attend real fight nights here year-round.

How to Plan Your Own White Lotus Thailand Itinerary

A focused, film-location-inspired trip doesn't need eight destinations, three or four days on one island, done properly, covers the season's key sites with room to actually enjoy them.

Sample 7-day Koh Samui-focused route:

  • Days 1–2: Arrive Koh Samui; settle in near Bophut, visit Fisherman's Village and Anantara Bophut Koh Samui
  • Day 3: Boat trip through Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park
  • Day 4: Dinner or drinks at the Singing Bird Lounge, Anantara Lawana
  • Day 5: Fly to Phuket; spa afternoon at Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas
  • Day 6: Phang Nga Bay boat excursion from Phuket Yacht Haven Marina; dinner at Ta Khai, Rosewood Phuket
  • Day 7: Ya Nui Beach or Bangla Boxing Stadium before departure

For travelers who'd rather have the logistics - flights between islands, restaurant bookings at Ta Khai and the Singing Bird Lounge, spa reservations - handled by someone who knows the properties directly, this is exactly the kind of trip a private guided itinerary is built for.
