Explore Nita village
Tucked away in the lush tropical hills of Sikka Regency on the island of Flores, Nita is a small village that is notable for the Lepo Lorun, a weaving co-op dedicated to Tenun Ikat, an ancient organic art of weaving and dyeing using natural colours such as leaves, tea barks, or fruits. The center was established by Alfonsa Horeng in 2003 with the participation of women from surrounding villages to preserve this traditional weaving method. They produce fully woven Ikat with typical motifs and also design accessories using the Ikat like scarves, bags, or bandannas. Visitors to Nita village can learn about the intricate process to make woven fabrics in Lepo Lorun, join weaving workshops, meet musicians, and dance along to beautiful Sikka music.
