Mandailing Batak typical houses
The Mandailing is one of six traditional cultural groups of Batak people, notable for their ancient traditional houses. The remnant of these typical houses are to be found mainly in the northern section of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. The village of Usortolang for example now is a tourist place. The design of Mandailing buildings is quite similar to the Karo houses, but each house is inhabited by only one family. They rise up in tiers, and on top of the roofs are metal decorations. They also have a traditional ensemble of drums which are used during festivities.
