Sangiran Museum and Early Man Site - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Situated about 15 kilometers in the north of Solo town, Sangiran Early Man Site is one of the most important archeological sites in the world for the understanding of human evolution. It became famous and was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996 after the key discovery of Pithecanthropus erectus remains (the skeleton of the Java man) in the 1930s. Now you can learn about the history of exploration at the site in the Sangiran Museum. From the three main halls, visitors can see a number of dioramas about the early humans and animals in the region, as well as a variety of fossils and remnants from the prehistoric era that are believed to be around 1 million years ago.
