"Experience the authentic floating life"

Since the water flows more than 33,500 miles (54,000 kilometres), the residents' life has been quickly set up around this place. A floating market is merely a tourist attraction to some people, but to locals here, it is a way of life.You will be surprised that life here is much lived on, almost by or near the water. In order to withstand the floods that happen frequently, houses and fishing farms are built on stilts. Easily watching big ferries carry people, vehicles, and food from this terminal to the others. "Vinh Trang Pagoda - an ancient Buddhist pagoda with special structure"

This pagoda was built in 1849 which is situated in My Tho, Tien Giang province with its area is nearly 2000m2. Vinh Trang Buddhist pagoda is famous for its architecture - the blending of Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese and also European styles. You will be amazed and look intently at the intricate designs and ornaments on the walls and arches. This pagoda is full of beautiful flowering shrubs and well maintained potted plants. In addition, the laughing and reclining Buddha outside and the bronze life-size Buddha idol inside are truly remarkable and make you want to bow down in respect and devotion.

"Sampan Cruise in Ben Tre and Cai Be"

Simply take a sampan which is a small wooden rowboat, and paddle your way going deeper into many small canals of the Mekong tributaries to come across flower and vegetable farms, rice factories, many fruit orchards and all sorts of attractions by the water. Best places to do this is Ben Tre, My Tho and Cai Be where you can totally immerse into the beauty of nature. 

"Colourful Cai Be fruit orchard"

Can you guess where is the place which provides approximately 70% of the fruit consumed all over Vietnam? This is the Mekong Delta where has a load of fruit orchards scattered throughout the provinces that make up the Delta. You are easy to find many kinds of fruits such as guava, apple, mango, grapefruit, dragon fruit, jackfruit, mangosteen, durian, plum, etc.., is cultivated. When you visit Tan Phong island of Cai Be, you will see many fruit orchards and if you want, just ask politely the owner and give them a small amount of money to visit their orchards and take photos, try fruits and even buy them to your friends and your families.

This is also the home to 140 types of flora, 70 species of birds, 11 types of animals, 25 species of reptiles, and 23 kinds of fish. Tra Su is a mangrove forest which flooded throughout the year but the most beautiful time is from August to December. You will pass waterbirds of all shapes and colours, dancing between the reeds and lotus blossoms, and their small bodies and hollow bones barely making a dent on the leaves. You will witness the most stunningly peaceful views once you are in the heart of the forest. This is an absolutely not-to-be-missed half-day trip from Chau Doc.

While the taste of fish noodle soup in Hanoi is balanced between sweet, sour and salty, the noodle here has a strong flavour which is a mixture of thin noodles, fish caught from the Mekong river, salad of banana inflorescence, green herbs, mung bean sprouts, soup cooked using fish bones and a special ingredient is the golden Sesbania sesban flowers (HoaDienDien). Everything mixed together and turned into the amazing soup.

"Coconut candy – Ben Tre"

Ben Tre is very famous for its coconut candy which is made by their local coconut fruit which has the unique natural sweet – tasting. For such a long time, coconut candies have become a major commodity which brings economic benefits as well as introduces Ben Tre food cuisine to the world.

"Snakehead fish thick noodle soup (Banh Canh ca loc)"

This is a mixture of thick noodles, green herbs, mung bean sprouts, snakehead fish meat which caught from the Mekong River and thick soup. You are easy to try this noodle almost everywhere in the Mekong River as it is one of the favourite meals of the locals.

"Vietnamese pancake (Banh Xeo)"

If you have never tried “Banh Xeo”, please try it now. It is one of the popular meals of Vietnamese. To cook “Banh Xeo”, the main ingredients are eggs and meat – two basic foods you can find anywhere. With little mung bean sprouts, green herbs, and carrots; you will have a delicious pancake. However, the main element which makes the pancake here is special is the sauce. You can ask the local people and you will see people keen to share it with you.

"Snakehead fish rice porridge (Chao ca loc)"

It is a mixture of 2 main ingredients: snakehead fish and rice porridge. Some people put a little pepper and green herbs to have a stronger flavour. It is very simple to make but very delicious as well. 

"Mud carp fish hotpot with the golden Sesbania Sesban flowers (Lau ca linh bong dien dien)"

If you have tried the fish hotpot before, you would see that this type of hotpot is rather salty. However, the fish hotpot here is rather sweet than salty. The main ingredient to make a delicious fish hotpot is the golden Sesbania Sesban flowers. Some people also put some other ingredients such as mung bean sprouts, green herbs, and tofu. 

"Elephant Ear Fish (Ca Tai Tuong)"

Although the name of this type of fish sounds a bit weird because of its appearance, enjoying the fish can be a great experience. You can find this fish in both the restaurants and homestays in some other parts in Vietnam like Ho Chi Minh City, but to find the true flavour and taste, it should be cooked in a traditional Mekong style. The way to eat that is very unique also; you should take a small piece of fish, pickles, noodle, and vegetables and roll in rice paper. After dipping the roll in fish sauce, lemongrass and chilli, you will find the taste at its best.  

"Chau Doc’s palm sugar steam rice cake (Banh thot not Chau Doc)"
