When referring to the land of temples Laos, many people think of Luang Prabang - the ancient royal city of Laos, but Vientiane - Laos's capital also offers tourists plenty of awesome, fun things to do and best attractions to discover. Amongst many beautiful temples in Vientiane, Wat Si Saket which is the oldest temple featuring more than 10,000 Buddha sculptures of varying styles and sizes of the city attracts many travellers because of its special architecture and layout. It is also known as one of the very few temples which survived the destruction caused by the Siamese armies in 1827.
Wat Si Muang is one of the most beautiful and ancient temples in Vientiane city. This is the temple where is not only attracting travellers from all over the world but also many locals because of its fascinating legend about a young woman named Si Muang who sacrificed herself to appease angry spirits more than 400 years ago.
Situated around 25km southeast of the city, this park was founded in 1958 by sculpture artist Bunleua Sulila and monk. This is an open-air sculpture park where contains more than 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues. Amongst those special statues, two notable sculptures are the 40-metre long reclining buddha and the gigantic pumpkin.
Great Sacred Stupa - Pha That Luang is the most important holy stupa and Buddhist monument not only in Vientiane but also in Laos. It is also known as the national symbol of this country. Pha That Luang pagoda is very beautiful and known as the perfect place to gain an insight into this most impressive religious structure.
Wat Ho Phra Keo (also known as Haw Phra Kaew) is used to be one of Laos' most highly venerated temples and now is a museum of many beautiful Buddha statues and various Khmer artefacts. After discovering the museum, you can relax in the garden which contains many flowers and trees are well maintained.
