Camp Leakey, Indonesia

Camp Leakey

Settled deep in the rain forests of Central Kalimantan, Camp Leakey is one of the main attractions of Tanjung Putting National Park that is dedicated to orangutans preservation. The camp was founded in 1971 by orangutan researcher Biruté Galdikas as a a haven for rescued orangutans and now working as a base for scientists, park rangers, staff and students. As an active research facility, Camp Leakey welcomes day visitors to witness the daily feedings of wild orangutans when you will most likely see wild orangutans up close in their natural habitat. Make sure you will follow all the safety requests from rangers and observe orangutans from a safe distance during the visit.
