Explore Turquoise Yamdrok Lake
On the way from Lhasa, Tibet's largest city to Shigatse, the second-largest city, visitors can easily catch sight of a beautiful lake along the highway that definitely worth a visit, that's Yamdrok Lake, one of the three largest holy lakes in Tibet. It is a fan-shaped natural freshwater lake which covers a surface area of 638 square kilometers spreading to the south and narrowing up to the north. Surrounded by many wild mountain ranges, the lake itself is extremely gorgeous and well worth a photo stop for admiring the stunning scenery. The water in the lake reflects different degrees of blue depending where you are but it is at its best with the glorious turquoise colours when the sun is shining. Yamdrok Lake is well-known to be a scared place as it's believed to be able to help Tibetans find the reincarnated soul of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people. Being an ideal place for photographic interest, the lake is a popular tourist site included in most itineraries when traveling in Tibet.
