Londa Burial Caves
For all brave hearts and those looking for a death-themed adventure in the land of Toraja, Londa Burial Caves is one of the best tourist attractions found in the village of Sandan Uai. Set not far from the village and surrounded by vast rice fields, visitors will first notice a lush green cliff with forest trees. As you get closer, you will see on the cliff surface colourful coffins and eerie lifelike effigies called Tau-Tau representing the dead persons buried in this funeral site. At the foot of the rock lie two huge natural caves that tourists can explore with a lantern or flashlight. The ambiance on the inside is quite intense and hauntingly chilling with skulls and bones scattered around on the floor, and many coffins hanging on the cave walls. The visit is a great chance to witness the unique funeral practices of the Toraja in the region.
