Plaosan Temple
Located about a kilometer to the northwest of the Prambanan temple, Plaosan is indeed a beautiful ancient temple complex with a perfect blend of Hindu and Buddhist structure. It is made up of 174 small stupas and shrines, dividing into two groups, Plaosan Lor (north) and Plaosan Kidul (south). In Plaosan Lor, visitors can see two restored, identical main temples with impressive stone Bodhisattvas as well as intricate reliefs and ornaments. Plaosan Kidul, meanwhile, is only ruin of stone piles with little renovation work. Yet what allures visitors to Plaosan is the romantic love story of the temple founders, Sri Kahulunnan, a princess of Sailendra Dynasty, and her husband Rakai Pikatan, a prince of Hindu Mataram kingdom.
