Relax your body and soul at Izu Peninsula
A popular resort destination for tourists from the Kanto region of Japan, Izu Peninsula is a large mountainous peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, best known for its hot springs, beautiful coastlines, mild climate and delicious cuisine. The peninsula is only about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo and can easily be accessed by train, making it a popular weekend getaway for local and foreign travelers alike. The east side of the Izu Peninsula, with larger cities such as Atami, Ito and Shimoda, is more developed than the west, but for those seeking natural beauty and historical legacy, the small resort west town of Toi is highly recommended. Like other towns, Toi is full of onsen hotels and beaches overlooking superb views of Suruga Bay and Mount Fuji on clear day. You can also have a soak at those hot spring baths for a price without staying in their hotels if you are not planning overnight. Other attractions you should not miss are the world's largest flower clock and Toi historical gold and silver mine that are both great for pleasant walks.
