Tjong A Fie Mansion
Tjong A Fie Mansion is a majestic two-story mansion in Medan, North Sumatra, built by Tjong A Fie, a famous Chinese merchant who then became the Chinese Major (leader of the Chinese) in the town. This 35-room building was completed in 1900 on a large area of 8000 sq. meter, mixing opulent European-Art Deco and Chinese architecture styles. Following feng-shui principles, the rooms on four sides of the mansion surround a big open-air courtyard called the "Well of Heaven". At the ground floor, you will see the ornately decorated main hall, the late Tjong A Fie's bedroom with authentic artifacts from the era, the ancestral temple, and other family’s rooms. On the second floor, visitors will find a Taoist temple and the Ballroom with carefully designed spaces.
