Danjugan Island Marine Reserve and Sanctuaries
Floating three kilometers southwest off the coast of Cauayan, Negros Occidental, Danjugan is a small 43-hectare island, well known as an esteemed ecotourism destination. Home to different ecosystems and a wide range of wildlife species: 244 hard coral, 579 fish, 72 birds, 10 bats, 17 mangroves and 22 butterflies, this lush rainforest covered island is listed as a protected marine reserve and wildlife sanctuary, managed privately by the Philippine Reef & Rainforest Conservation Foundation in Bacolod. Today, besides serving as a research area for students and conservationists, Danjugan also welcomes tourists to experience nature at its purest with plenty of adrenaline-pumping activities. Here visitors can join a nature walk through jungle for a guided birdwatching tour, go kayaking on serene lagoons and beaches, snorkel to see the healthy coral reefs and sea grass surrounding the island, and loads more.
