Dayak people and agricultural philosophy
Though living along the banks of the larger rivers that is convenient for fishing and hunting, most Dayak village economies in Central Kalimantan are based on agriculture. Traditionally, Dayak people follow the shifting cultivation of hill rice at a ratio that allows the forest to regenerate itself. This practice also ensures the continuity and sustainability of forest use, and the survival of the community nearby itself. Today, in the forest area near the village, tourists can walk along the trekking trails and admire vast plantations of ironwood or rubber tree. Sometimes you can also see how local people take latex from the trees directly.
