Explore Batang Ai National Park
Another extraordinary introduction to Sarawak's forests and wildlife, Batang Ai National Park in Sri Aman Division, Malaysia is part of a large tropical rainforest conservation sitting on the border with Kalimantan, Indonesia, some 250 kilometers east of Kuching. Surrounded by the 24 square kilometer artificial lake, the park’s lush dipterocarp forests have the highest density of wild orangutans in central Borneo, which offers a good possibility of seeing these creatures in the wild. It is also home to many other endangered species such as gibbons, hornbills, and langurs that you could spot along various forest trails, but you must go with a registered guide or park ranger at all times. Your trip to the Batang Ai National Park regularly includes a visit to the age-old traditional longhouses of the Iban, the local inhabitants here who get involved in the park’s management and conservation as well.
