Reunification Palace - one of the most important historical spot in Ho Chi Minh city
Surrounded by royal palm trees, Reunification Palace is a 1960s architecture with iconic history value to Vietnamese people. If you have ever seen a picture of Reunification Palace in history, it would probably be the iconic moment when the North Vietnamese Army’s tank crashed the palace main gate and ended Vietnam war. The palace is actually a time capsule from the 1975 milestone, when the exhausting war ended and reunified the North and the South of Vietnam. Nowadays, the 2 original tanks that crashed Vietnamese way into victory are still parked in front of the palace. Coming to Reunification Palace, tourists from all over the world can see the iconic tanks in reality.The palace was originally Vietnamese General Ngo Dinh Diem’s base until 1963, when General Ngo passed away. Reunification Palace was also the workplace and residents of the French Governor of Cochin-China. As a royal palace, Reunification Palace is surrounded with lush gardens, antique furniture, a command bunker and secret rooms. While the palace’s basement features tunnels and a telecommunication center, there are also adjoining basement rooms displaying war propaganda arts. The end rooms host played videos that appraise the palace and its history in 5 languages. Going upwards, travelers may discover many functional rooms, each of which serve different purposes, from working places to card playing room and casino. Interestingly, there is also a rooftop terrace designed for heliport landing. The palace is still used to host Vietnamese Government’s important occasions.
