Take part in a Japanese calligraphy class

Shodo, or Japanese calligraphy, is the art of writing beautifully with a brush and ink. This traditional art is an important attribute for Japanese children in primary school, and now popular with tourists to Japan alike as a truly unforgettable traditional practice. Many who cannot speak Japanese may see impossible to appreciate its aesthetic value, but a Japanese calligraphy class will certainly let you experince this art form at ease. A typical calligraphy session takes 1-2 hours in a Japanese style room with all the necessary tools. A professional calligrapher will introduce you to the basics of shodo, from preparing black ink to writing techniques involved and the meaning of kanji writing system. You'll have plenty of time to practise your calligraphy skills, write your name in Japanese writing and produce a beautiful piece of art that you can take home.
