Visit Wat Phra Singh - one of the most venerated temples in Chiang Mai
A visit to Wat Phra Singh gives you an insightful glimpse into Lanna temple art and architecture. Hailed as one of the two most venerated temples in Chiang Mai alongside Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, this 14th-century Buddhist temple houses a number of classic Lanna style buildings and very old Buddha images. The main attraction is the elegantly decorated Lai Kam assembly hall or Viharn Lai Kham that enshrines a very highly revered Buddha image named Phra Singh Buddha (Lion Buddha). Every Songkran, the statue is taken from the temple and carried through Chiang Mai’s streets for the bathing ritual. Visitors can also explore other structures such as the rebuilt hall Viharn Luang, the red-colored wooden library (Haw Trai) or the age-old chedi.
