Blood Compact Site Bohol
If you’re interested in exploring the history of Bohol island in the Philippines, make sure you take the time to visit the Blood Compact Site located in Barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City. This particular site is actually a memorial ground to a very important event in the Philippine history, commonly known as “Sandugo”. The Sandugo dating back many centuries was a blood compact between the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna the chieftain of Bohol on March 16, 1565 as the First Treaty of Friendship between two countries. The historical site is now adorned with a stunning sculpture created by the Philippine national artist, Napoleon Abueva. Set in an open area overlooking the Bohol Sea, this artwork portrays the scene of the blood compact with five life-sized images of men gathered around a table with Legazpi and Sikatuna supposedly making a toast.
