Besakih Temple
Sit on the southern slopes of the sacred Mount Agung, Besakih Temple, also known as Bali’s ‘mother temple’, is a complex of at least 86 clan temples and shrines in eastern Bali. This is the largest and holiest Hindu temple of the Balinese that miraculously survived the series of volcanic eruptions of 1963. Perched nearly 1000 meters up the slope side, Besakih Temple offers breathtaking views of Bali countryside with rice fields, mountains, hills and forests. Each year the complex holds at least seventy festivals as each shine has its own anniversary. Besakih is also the only temple open to every devotee from any caste group. If you’re looking for a day trip in Bali, Besakih Temple is truly worth a visit.
