Lake Beratan and Ulun Danu temple in Bali
Set within the highlands of the mountainous Bedugul Regency in Bali, Lake Beratan is the second largest lake in Bali that is also a perfect place for sightseeing and water sports. However, the greatest lure attracting tourists to this lake is the majestic Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, also known as the Floating Temple that sits on the edge of the lake. Dating back to the Mengwi kingdom, this ancient temple was built in the 17th century in honor of the lake goddess Dewi Danu with a mixture of Hindu and Buddhist architectural styles and now considered as one of the iconic social images of Bali tourism. Besides many amazing photo opportunities, you can take time walking around the temple’s grounds and take in the breathtaking views of the lake. If you’re after some adventure, consider hikes to nearby waterfalls and vanilla plantations.
