Prambanan Temple
For all history and culture explorers, Prambanan Temple (locally called RoroJongrang - the slender virgin) is a must-see spot while you are in Central Java. Believed to have been built during the Sanjaya Dynasty in the 9th century as an answer to the Buddhist Sailendra Dynasty's Borobudur, this magnificent complex originally comprised 240 temples, making it the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia and the second-largest in Southeast Asia. You can easily spend hours to marvel at masterpieces of stone carvings telling the Indonesian version of the Ramayana epic as well as admire the typical Hindu architecture represented in every corner.
