Mendut Temple
Originally built in the early 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, Mendut is an exquisite Buddhist temple in Central Java that is about 3km east from the mighty Borobudur. With Pawon temple right in the middle of them, the three temples are located in one straight line that is also the walking path of Buddhists during the Vesak annual ritual. Inside Mendut temple, you will see three carved large stone statues, in the middle is the Buddha, on the two sides are Bodhisattvas. Meanwhile, the outer walls are adorned with many intricately unique bas-reliefs of Buddhist divinities and Hariti, the goddess of fertility and motherhood.
