Presidential Palace of Malacañang
The Presidential Palace of Malacañang, or widely known as Malacañang Palace, is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the Philippines, with part of its complex returned to a museum and library for history buffs and tourists alike. Located in San Miguel, Manila, overlooking the Pasig River, this sprawling structure is a perfect example of colonial architecture, including numerous mansions and buildings designed in bahay na bato and neoclassical style. The palace complex dating to the mid-18th century was initially built as a summer house of a Spanish merchant before becoming the official residence of the Spanish, and later American governors-general. Nowadays, visitors to the palace can explore the political history of the country in the museum through fascinating displays about the 16 Philippines’ presidents since 1899.
